From fragrant curries to delicious noodles, Banana Island in Oklahoma City invites you to experience the best of Malaysian and Thai cuisine. We are a fusion restaurant that offer flavors of Thai , Indian, Malay, Chinese and Contonese.

Banana Island was opened two years ago on NW 23 by Kitty Zhao, who hails from Ipoh — the capital city of the western Malaysian state of Perak. Zhao, who came to Oklahoma City by way of Florida, closed her restaurant last May to prepare for a move to its new location at 1117 NW 25, where it opened two months ago.

The smaller, more modern space better captures the exotic quality of the food in a more intimate setting.

Southeast Asian Cuisine is truly a fusion of wonderful flavors. In Malaysia itself, the cuisine is the result of influences from Malay, Chinese and Indian Kitchens, where locals are able to handle eating with chopsticks just as well as they are versed with using fingers on top of a banana leaf. Malaysian cuisine is a blend of spices, fresh ingredients, delicious unexpected flavors and aromas. This, coupled with the extraordinary flavors hailing from Thailand, from coconut curries to delicious fried noodles, allows for truly memorable dining experiences at Banana Island.

Banana Island doesn't seek simply to introduce you to the flavors that our chefs cherished in their childhood. Instead, we want you to take that first bite and be instantly transported to the streets of Kuala Lumpur, or the beaches of coastal Malaysia and Thailand. We want our food to take you on a journey, and leave you wondering if you should have brought your passport.
The Pattaya Chicken is a duo of chicken, with classic Chinese-style crispy chicken surrounding a delegate, tropical white-meat chicken salad. This is a beautiful dish that combines my personal holy trinity of flavor: sweet, spicy and crunchy.

“In Thai food, hot is extremely hot, (and) sweet is extremely sweet,”

“Malaysian food is about fresh ingredients,”

Banana Island offers specials that include soup and salad. The beverage menu is almost as extensive as the regular, including teas based in soy milk, fresh juices, shaved ice, soft drinks, imported beer and smoothies
